Claire Acupuncture & Wellness Bristol

Hello, I’m Claire.

As a qualified and experienced Acupuncturist and Naturopath, I am a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP).

I help women to improve their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, gently and naturally so that they are able to live their best lives with vitality and joy.

Using Traditional Chinese Medicine theory in a contemporary way, I treat each patient uniquely and holistically. Often working alongside conventional western medicine.

I divide my time between three practices. Deeper Balance Clinic just outside of Wells , Harmony Within in Shepton Mallet and Neals Yard Remedies in Bristol.

About me
intro to acupuncture

ancient wisdom. contemporary practice.

Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body. This stimulates the nervous system, activating the body’s capacity to regulate and heal itself, promoting physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Acupuncture should not hurt. The needles are so fine they are barely discernible.  Some patients experience some sensation; many feel nothing at all. Most of my patients report a deep sense of relaxation both during and after treatment

Acupuncture is an ancient healing system, part of the ecosystem of Traditional Chinese Medicine services in which I am trained. It has been practiced for thousands of years and today it is commonly used as both a frontline and complementary treatment in healthcare systems around the world. Modern science has helped to increase our understanding of the biomechanics of its effectiveness and it is today been clinically proven to be beneficial for a whole range of conditions.

Furthermore, a number of private health insurers today cover acupuncture in their treatment options.

I provide a range of interventions based on the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine and contemporary, evidence-based practice. Following a comprehensive, holistic assessment of your needs I will tailor a treatment plan to help you regain a sense of control over your health and wellbeing. Depending on your needs and preferences this may include any of the following services.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture points are chosen according to your specific diagnosis. It initiates the healing mechanisms within your own body.  Once the extremely fine needles are in, many patients feel a sense of serenity and calm.

MOXIBUSTION

Mugwort is a herb used to warm and stimulate acupuncture points through a process called moxibustion. It improves circulation to relieve pain and boost energy. It is also used successfully to turn breech babies.

FACIAL REJUVINATION

Facial Acupuncture is the natural alternative to Botox.  It increases blood to the face improving vitality, increases collagen to areas with wrinkles and causes muscles to contract thereby toning the face where elasticity has been lost through the process of ageing.  Treatment includes relaxing gua sha and a luxurious facial massage leaving the skin looking revitalised.

ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE

Electro-acupuncture increases the potential healing effects of traditional acupuncture.  It works by passing a tiny electrical impulse between two needles.  The patient report a gentle vibration.  It is useful for chronic or acute musculoskeletal pain, and in particular neck and shoulder tension.

CUPPING

Cupping feels like massage in reverse. By gently pulling the muscles and fascia upwards, it draws toxins to the surface of the skin where the immune system is better able to eliminate them and encourages oxygenated blood flow to the area.  Especially effective on tight tired muscles.

GUA SHA

Gua Sha improves local circulation and breaks up scar tissue or adhesions in the muscles and connective tissue, by gently scraping a tool over the surface of the skin to stimulate local circulation. It is also a great complementary technique for treating respiratory conditions.

NATUROPATHY

Naturopathy is a complete system of western natural medicine that focuses on preventive health and the use of non-toxic, natural therapies. It is all about encouraging and supporting your body's own natural self healing mechanisms.

ACUPRESSURE

Acupressure works on the same ancient theory as acupuncture. Points are stimulated gently with the practitioners own fingers, naturally easing blockages and restoring balance.  Research suggests particular success with morning sickness, anxiety and paediatric care where a gentler approach is preferred.
