Looking for a natural way to achieve brighter, healthier-looking skin without injectables or invasive procedures?

More Than Skin Deep

A course of Facial Acupuncture can help soften the appearance of fine lines, enhance elasticity and restore a fresh, radiant complexion. But the benefits aren't purely cosmetic. Unlike many aesthetic procedures, facial acupuncture offers a moment to slow down, release tension and allow the nervous system to settle.

Stress, poor sleep, hormonal changes and the demands of modern life can all leave their mark. Taking time to relax, release tension and care for yourself can be just as valuable as caring for your complexion.

Healthy-looking skin. A relaxed expression. A calmer mind.

For me, one of the most appealing things about facial acupuncture is that it isn't simply about looking younger - you get an hour that's entirely about you.

I offer appointments in Shepton Mallet, Wells and Clifton, Bristol, combining therapeutic acupuncture with a luxurious facial experience.

What Is Facial Acupuncture?

Facial acupuncture combines the ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern understanding of skin health and the body's own regenerative processes.

Using exceptionally fine needles, specific points across the face and body are gently stimulated to encourage circulation, relax facial tension and activate the body's natural repair response.

Originating from Traditional Chinese Medicine, it takes a whole-person approach to beauty and wellbeing. Rather than focusing solely on the surface, your practitioner considers factors such as stress, sleep, circulation and general health that can influence how you look and feel.

From a modern physiological perspective, gentle needling creates a controlled stimulus within the tissues. This may increase local blood flow and activate processes involved in tissue repair.

It's about bringing out a fresher, more rested version of you.

Patient Testimonials

"Claire has been doing facial acupuncture for me, and I’ve really noticed a difference in my skin. My skin was quite bad, with lots of redness, spots and scarring, but I could see day by day that the facial acupuncture was helping to improve the redness and the appearance of my scars.”

"I love that it’s a natural treatment without chemicals, and I’m really pleased with the results. I would definitely recommend giving it a try! I have had several treatments from Claire. Wonderful.  Very relaxing. Facial acupuncture is not just about the face but helps balance the whole body.  Claire is calm and professional.  I suggest anyone wanting to improve skin health, give it a try.” – Anne.

How Does Facial Acupuncture Work?

Encouraging Collagen & Elasticity

Very fine needles create tiny, controlled mechanical stimuli within the skin. This activates local repair mechanisms and stimulates fibroblast activity, which plays an important role in collagen production.

Collagen and elastin provide structure, firmness and resilience. Supporting these processes gradually enhances texture and elasticity while reducing the appearance of fine lines.

Creating the Acupuncture Glow

Needling influences local microcirculation, helping oxygen and nutrients reach the tissues.

This increased blood flow is thought to contribute to the fresh, luminous complexion often associated with acupuncture — commonly known as the "acupuncture glow."

Releasing Facial Tension

Stress doesn't just affect how we feel — it can also show on our faces.

Furrowed brows, a clenched jaw and tension around the eyes all contribute to a tired or stressed appearance. Carefully selected points encourage these muscles to relax, creating a softer, more open expression.

Calming the Nervous System

Facial rejuvenation doesn't have to be purely aesthetic.

Body points are incorporated to encourage relaxation and support the parasympathetic nervous system — the body's natural "rest and digest" state.

Many people find the experience deeply calming, making it a wonderful opportunity to step away from a busy day.

You leave looking and feeling refreshed

What Can Facial Acupuncture Help With?

Facial acupuncture may be particularly suited to those looking to address:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Loss of firmness or elasticity

  • Dull or tired-looking complexions

  • Uneven skin tone

  • Facial puffiness

  • Jaw and facial tension

  • A desire for greater radiance and vitality

Because body points can form part of the protocol, some clients also notice wider benefits such as improved relaxation, sleep and general wellbeing.

If you're experiencing a specific concern such as acne or rosacea, we can discuss whether this approach may be suitable alongside appropriate medical or dermatological care.

Why Choose Facial Acupuncture?

Facial acupuncture offers a very different philosophy from conventional cosmetic procedures.

Rather than adding volume, freezing expression, or surgically altering your features, the intention is to work with your body's own physiological processes.

There are:

  • No dermal fillers

  • No Botox

  • No surgery

  • No artificial volume

  • Minimal downtime

The result we're aiming for is subtle and natural.

You still look like you — just refreshed, rested and radiant.

What Happens During Your Appointment?

We'll begin with a consultation to discuss your skin, facial concerns, general health and what you'd like to achieve.

Ultra-fine, sterile needles are then placed at carefully selected points across the face and, where appropriate, the body.

Once they have been removed, I'll use Gua Sha and a jade roller to gently massage and smooth the face, encouraging circulation and easing muscular tension.

The session finishes with a relaxing facial massage using beautiful natural Neal's Yard Remedies products.

It's an hour designed to combine therapeutic care with a little luxury — giving you time to completely switch off.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The effects of facial acupuncture are cumulative, so changes tend to develop gradually rather than appearing overnight.

You may notice a brighter, more refreshed complexion after your first appointment. Improvements in texture, elasticity and fine lines generally require a longer course.

I recommend 10 sessions to allow the benefits to build progressively, followed by occasional maintenance appointments according to your individual requirements.

Commit to 9 sessions in advance and your 10th is complimentary.

Specialist Training

I have undertaken dedicated training in facial acupuncture and rejuvenation, including:

  • Facial Revitalisation Course International College of Oriental Medicine, 2026

  • Facial Acupuncture Training with John Tindall The Yuan Clinic, 2019

As a trained acupuncturist and naturopath, I also take a holistic approach, considering influences such as stress, sleep, nutrition and general wellbeing alongside your aesthetic goals.

What Does the Research Say?

Research into cosmetic acupuncture is still developing, but early clinical findings are encouraging.

Yun et al. (2013) studied women aged 40–59 receiving facial cosmetic acupuncture and reported a significant improvement in objective measures of facial elasticity after five sessions over three weeks. As this was a small, uncontrolled pilot study, further research is needed to confirm the findings.

A more recent 2025 randomised controlled trial involving 72 women investigated facial and body acupuncture for frown lines. Following six weeks of treatment, the acupuncture group showed significantly greater improvements than the wait-list control group, with benefits also observed at 12 weeks.

These results are promising, although facial acupuncture should not be described as a guaranteed alternative to cosmetic procedures. Larger, high-quality studies are still needed.
